Obituary Notice of Mr. Kopalu Rajaratnam

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of our Vice Patron Mr. Kopalu Rajaratnam, FCMA, CGMA (Chartered Management Accountant - UK), who has passed away peacefully in Scarborough (Canada) on Saturday, February 02nd 2013 on his 85th years of age.

Considered to be a pillar of organization, he held several positions in Hartley College Past Pupils' Association Canada & USA as Treasurer, Vice President and President. His contributions and commitments to HCPPA are immeasurable. His dedication and hard work helped elevate our association to this height.

He had been a Professional Accountant who helped to found Sri Lankan Accountant Association (SAAC) and became the first president of the organization. SAAC is an association composed of Sri Lankan accounting professionals as well as students working towards their accounting designation.

Mr. Rajaratnam served for 35 years in Sri Lankan Government. Before retiring from his services at his age of 55 years, he held position as Chief Accountant at the Ministry of Trade and Shipping. He was the Financial Management pillar to create the Mahapola University Scholarship Fund successfully and to execute in Sri Lanka.

After his retirement from his government services, he served further 7 years in National Insurance Corporation in Sri Lanka as Vice President, Finance. Then he continued to work as Management Consultant for seven insurance companies until immigrating to Canada at the age of 69.

He is the Beloved Husband of Mrs.Kuhanayaki and the Loving Father of

  • Kuharajan (Isipathana MV, Colombo),
  • Kunarajan (Royal College, Colombo),
  • Kularajan (Isipathana MV-Colombo),
  • Thevaki (St. Bridgets. Convent - Colombo & Methodist Girls. High School - Point Pedro),
  • Kumanarajan (Hartley 1988 O/L),
  • Kuberarajan (Hartley 1993 O/L).
